The welcome you receive at Eriskay B&B and Glamping in Aviemore is not one that you’ll forget in a hurry. From the moment you arrive, your South African hosts, Ken and Gill, roll out the red carpet for you. Expect to feel part of the family as they serve up a unique glamping Aviemore experience that captures the best of both Scotland and South Africa. Or, as they beautifully call it, AfriScot.
Tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac in the centre of Aviemore, at the foot of Craigellachie Hill in the Cairngorms National Park, you’ll find Eriskay. This wonderful family-run establishment, which boasts a traditional B&B and modern glamping facilities, has everything you could possibly want from a special place to stay in the Cairngorms. And much more besides.
In the immaculate Eriskay garden are the four unique glamping pods with their palpable fairytale charm. Each Aviemore glamping pod sleeps two adults in warm sink-soft beds. There’s also an ensuite shower room with piping hot water, storage for your luggage, free WiFi, a digital TV as well as a kettle and Tassimo coffee machine with complimentary tea and coffee. Each pod also boasts a portable BBQ for you to use during your stay.
Naturally, as guests of the Eriskay B&B, you can also enjoy a delicious, homemade Scottish breakfast as part of your stay – cooked by the lovely Gill, served by Ken in the main guest lounge (and commented on by almost all of the guests who have stayed before).
Breakfast costs £10pp and includes a buffet of fruit, yoghurts, juices, a variety of breads, tea and coffee, as well as a hot plate chosen from the extensive menu.
But should you want to cook your own breakfast or dinner, you can. There’s a wooden bothy in-between the four glamping pods with a fully-equipped kitchen and dining table, along with a decking area and fire pit.
The pods are intimate and cosy, and made especially for the two of you. So don’t be temped to try and squeeze in a third guest. Instead, pull down the blinds that hang in the Hobbiton-style window and hunker down as a couple, as safe and snug as a rabbit in a burrow.
Inside the B&B, there are 3 comfortable, clean rooms waiting to give you a traditional Scottish embrace: a double (sleeping 2), a twin (sleeping 2) and a family room (sleeping 4). You’ll also find a lovely, light breakfast lounge with its tartan-checked carpet and deep chesterfield leather chairs and sofa; just the spot to relax with maps of the Cairngorms plotting your day.
However, the real magic touch that Eriskay has, alongside its fabulous rooms and incredible location, is the warmth that bursts forth from its hosts. Both Gill and Ken love nothing more than meeting new people, swapping stories of travel and experiences and making recommendations of what to do and see in the area – all of which has been tried and tested by their family.
This personal and unique AfriScot’s welcome isn’t something you’ll find with any other Aviemore glamping provider. In a word, it’s priceless – and that alone is worth the cost of a weekend at Eriskay.
