🛌 Sleeps 2 – 10 | 🌳 Luxury Shepherd’s Hut and Self-catering Cottages | 👙 Outdoor Heated Pool | 👩🍳 On-site Baking and Chocolate Masterclasses
Long countryside walks. Lazy afternoons by the pool. The crackle of a wood burner. And bread-making by the glow of wood oven. Yes, the Artisan Bakehouse, on the edge of the South Downs, certainly knows how to butter up a weekend glamping in West Sussex.
Set within 5 acres of garden and woodland in the sleepy countryside of West Sussex is The Artisan Bakehouse – a place where you can come, not only to stay a while, but to bake delicious homemade bread and create incredible artisan chocolate.
At the heart of The Artisan Bakehouse estate is a 16th-century red-brick farmhouse, two self-catering cottages and a baking school, The Bakehouse. Whilst tucked away in a secluded spot, in the pea-green grounds amongst the oak trees, is the Baker’s Hut – a super-sweet wooden shepherd’s hut, perfect for a weekend glamping in West Sussex for 2.
The Baker’s Hut
As with everything at The Artisan Bakehouse, the Baker’s Hut has been carefully appointed by the owners, Les and Louise, to make you feel at home. The inside is immaculately clean, warm and modern, with cottage-style wooden doors, light oak floors and handmade kitchen work tops.
Pop open a bottle of wine to enjoy in front of the wood burner or in the private furnished garden by the warmth of the firepit. Should you have sweet treats or fresh sourdough to enjoy from your baking, you’ll find a fully-stocked kitchen with an oven/microwave and hob, kettle and toaster ready to use. You’re also welcome to help yourselves to fresh herbs, fruit, vegetables, and eggs from the friendly chickens.
When sleep calls, climb into the hut’s king-sized bed and slink down under crisp white sheets to dream of profiteroles and pastries. Then, wake in the morning with a hot shower in the en-suite shower room before tucking into the welcome hamper, complete with homemade bread, fruit, jam, juice, tea and coffee.
Baking and Chocolate Making
Stay in the Baker’s Hut (or in one of the on-site cottages) and don’t be surprised if you smell something delicious baking. Just steps away from the Baker’s Hut is the Artisan Bakehouse’s award-winning cookery school. It’s here that Les and Louise (the owners and passionate foodies), along with their talented team run a variety of baking masterclasses for you to sink your teeth into.
From wonderful and traditional real bread-making classes (including sourdough, pizza and Mediterranean bread), to baking sweet treats (think viennoiserie, pastries, and seasonal sweet delights).
There’s also a very tasty artisan chocolate-making class where you learn how to make fresh truffles with Mike Noble, Owner and Head Chocolatier from the acclaimed Sussex-based artisan chocolatiers, ‘Noble and Stace’.
