Why we love Mallory Meadows for a weekend
The names of the cabins are a dead giveaway: Hedgehog, Squirrel, Hare, Badger, Jenny Wren, Robin’s Retreat – so called because, here, nature is a permanent guest. Badger’s snuffle near their set. Owls sing you goodnight. Rabbits hop a good morning as you inhale the clear Leicestershire air. And the only sounds to ruffle your daytime are the chirps of wild birds and the church clock chiming.
Shrouded by towering mature oaks and beech trees, Mallory Meadows is a special place where you can sync your heart with the wildlife of rural Leicestershire. You’ll find it just outside of the pretty village of Kirby Mallory (8 miles south west of Leicester) in 2.5 acres of quiet fresh greenery. Run by the Tams family, Mallory Meadows is their long-held dream; a dream which started life in 2016 when the family moved into the cottage that sits next door to the meadows, Keepers Cottage.
Today, Mallory Meadows is a bucolic clutch of six timber self-catering properties – 4 studio cabins and 2 stylish roundhouses – open all year for relaxing midweekers or restorative long weekends and ideal for families, couples and soloists.
Each immaculately designed cabin scores serious hygge points with its king-sized bed, individual furnishings and hot tub waiting just outside. The only trouble is deciding which one to stay in first. Our advice? Work in alphabetical order and feel no guilt.
