A traditional Cotswold hotel with a sassy juxtaposition, The Old Stocks in Stow-on-the-Wold brings you dreamy rooms and fabulous food with a devilish personality.
Boasting an enviable location in the Market Square of Stow, The Old Stocks Inn seemingly fits the typical Cotswold ideal at first glance being amber stoned and sash windowed. But step into this 17th Century coaching inn and you’ll find something to surprise and delight.
Couple Richard and Charlotte, who run the Inn, have cleverly masterminded a hotel of two halves blending the authentic charm of the Inn’s original beams and crooked stone walls with a trendy contemporary character. A playful, modern interior sports a Scandinavian wonderland with uncovered light bulbs, grey-wool easy loungers and neon lightboxes displaying cheeky quips.
This hotel really has it all: the warmth of good service in traditional Cotswold countryside but with the flair of trendy in-town bars. With 16 drop-dead-gorgeous rooms, a perilously charming brass-topped bar and naughtily-long cocktail menu, The Old Stocks Inn offers a weekend away in the Wolds with a seductively modern twist – you’ll be under its spell in no time.
The Rooms
Climb the delightfully wonky, luxuriously carpeted staircase and you’ll find The Old Stocks Inn’s individually styled rooms, divided into four categories: House, Garden (with dog-friendly private terraces), Great and Family (with triple bunk-beds and games console).
Each space embodies the signature old-meets-new look with characterfully heavy wooden beams and dumpy woollen cushions styled with the same Scandinavian charisma of downstairs. Plump beds and contemporary furniture feature modern colours and fabrics giving the rooms a fresh and inviting feel.
Book one of the Great rooms and you’ll be treated to a few extra luxuries, including a classy roll-top bath and a velvet-clad Chesterfield-style sofa to sink into at the end of the day with your drink of choice in hand from the complimentary mini bar.
All rooms have en-suite bathrooms and come with a selection of Aromatherapy Associates toiletries and towels for guest use. Your entertainment needs are taken care of with ritzy magazines, wall mounted smart TV’s, digital radios and complimentary WIFI.
The Restaurant
Dine in at The Old Stock Inn’s restaurant and the creatively simple menu will easily seduce you just like the rest of the hotel. The dishes, which are the masterwork of Head Chef, Ian, are created from fresh local, seasonal ingredients and aim to tantalise the tastebuds. Enjoy the two-course dinner menu for £32 or 3 courses for £40. Lunches are available on weekends with traditional roast being served on Sundays.
For those wandering in off the street for an afternoon tipple, try the hip polished-brass bar, fringed with teal leather stools and offering a fab selection of fine wines and craft beers. Or for a cheekier snifter before bed, head into the newly refurbished Cocktail Lounge. And speaking of cocktails… what a menu: quirky, with a quintessentially British kick and stocking more Chase spirits options than you’ve seen in your life.
The Old Stocks Inn’s 200-year-old private walled garden provides an outdoor secret escape for a pre-dinner drink on warm evenings or an al fresco bite to eat. The clever guest bolt-on of the hotel’s adjoining Little Stocks Coffee Shop adds the perfect spot for hot drinks and pastries on the go.
