It’s the stillness that you notice first – but that’s to be expected when you have a whole heady four acres of sweet meadow to yourself. And when we say ‘to yourself’, we mean it. Erwain Escapes is a single, self-contained log cabin for two, made from locally-sourced timber and set within an ocean of rare grasses and wildflowers. Which means you won’t find a neighbouring cabin hidden amongst the trees or be disturbed by other guests coming and going.
In truth, it feels almost naughty to have all this nature to yourself; no matter which direction you look from the deck – north, east, south or west – your views are uninterrupted by anything manmade. You are a veritable king or queen, the meadow is you fiefdom and the cabin is your timber castle. Forgive yourself, therefore, if you lower into the sunken outdoor bath tub with a regal wave or expect the passing deer to courtesy their approval; it’s easy to get carried away when you stay at Erwain Escapes.
And carried away you will be. The great outdoors that surrounds this lovely timber cabin truly is great. They call Carmarthenshire the ‘garden of Wales’ thanks to its rich valleys, soaring mountains, Celtic rainforests and pristine beaches – and this natural beauty is all within your reach when you stay.
The Inside
As you might expect, though, it’s tempting not to leave your cabin castle for the real world at all. And you don’t actually have to because, under the sedum-green roof of your Carmarthenshire glamping escape, there is everything you need to keep your soul sated.
You’ve comfort and warmth thanks to the comfy sofa, ambient lighting and wood burning stove in the neat living space. You’ve plenty to do thanks to the books, games and jigsaw puzzles (there is no TV or WiFi here). You’ve a fully-quipped kitchen with a single oven and 2-ring induction hob so you can feast like royalty.
Move around the open-plan layout and you’ve an ensuite shower room (behind a sliding door) complete with toilet, vanity sink, luxury towels, bathrobes and a selection of eco-friendly toiletries. And then, in the bedroom area, you’ve a British 2000 pocket mattress waiting for you atop a handcrafted wooden bed.
Yes, it’s all high-quality furnishings rather than make do glamping at Erwain Escapes. The nature-loving owners – Angela and Ian – are proud of their stylish interiors and tasteful furniture; and guests to love the double whammy of being embedded deep in nature without missing out on boutique comforts.
The Experience
Angela and Ian are passionate about the healing power of nature to dissolve the stress of adulting. But they are also generous and empathetic hosts, so they care about you being comfortable and happy. It’s why their Carmarthenshire timber cabin is also dressed with extraordinarily thoughtful touches: freshly-foraged flowers in the spring and summer, something creative in the autumn and winter, handpicked books, Welsh blankets and throws, scatter cushions and hot water bottles. They’ve even fitted your bedroom with black-out roman blinds so you can relish long lazy lie-ins.
Believe us, if you could slip a bell jar over this special place and keep it all for yourself, you would. As past guests have said, Erwain Escapes is the true definition of a ‘hidden gem’. Here, your to-do list has no power. You are free to ‘just be’ amongst the oxeye daisies and greater spotted orchids, heeding your own wants and needs and not those of others.
