Why we love Roots + Seeds at Gloucester Food Dock
“With the same upbeat vibe as its sister restaurant in Cirencester, this bright and modern Gloucester restaurant-cafe is a rare find: here dogs, kids, cocktail lovers, brunch seekers and fine diners are all equally catered for. Whether you’re a foodie chasing provenance or someone just after a cracking brunch overlooking the water, this place hits the spot.”
Serving coffee, breakfast, brunch, and lunch Tuesday to Sunday, Roots + Seeds Gloucester is a warm, welcoming hub where you can enjoy some of the best food Gloucestershire has to offer. Its brasserie style menus of modern British with European influences showcase as much Gloucestershire-sourced, seasonal produce from trusted suppliers and growers as possible, along with the very best, home-grown, fresh produce picked daily from its own ¼ acre kitchen garden at its Cirencester site. Additional fresh produce grown specifically for its menus at Cirencester Royal Agricultural University’s new, seven-acre No Dig Market Garden.
Head chef, Sam Idoine of Roots + Seeds Kitchen Garden at Cirencester, created the all-day menus for the Gloucester site, with everything available to eat-in or Grab and Go. Expectgenerous and regularly changing dishes from classic brunch options, sandwiches and salads to more substantial dishes such as burgers and fresh pasta – all freshly made to order. There’s also a ‘Specials Board’ of delicious ‘Field to Fork’ dishes dictated by the seasons and what’s best on the day.
If you’re after an evening tipple, Roots + Seeds Gloucester has a fully stocked bar including award-winning Roots + Seeds London Dry Gin, made by co-founder, Sam Lawson-King and used for his renowned cocktails muddled with home-made shrubs, cordials and mixers using locally foraged ingredients. There’s also a selection of great wines curated by local specialists, Talking Wines, including from Woodchester Valley Vineyard, and beers by Gloucester Brewery and Cotswold Lakes Brew.
Inside, you’ll find a dedicated café space with pea green coffee counter lit from above by pressed glass ‘Trifle’ pendant shades and full-height windows with views over Victoria Basin and a large sunny terrace edged with planters filled with cottage-style flowers.
Since opening, Roots + Seeds Gloucester has receiving some tasty accolades; ‘Start-up of the Year’ Award at the 2024 Gloucestershire Foodie Awards and ‘Best Restaurant in the Cotswolds’ at the inaugural Slow Cotswolds Awards 2024, and chosen by Bradt travel guide publishers, which published its ‘Slow Travel Guide to the Cotswolds’, written by Caroline Mills. **Roots + Seeds also won the ‘Highly Commended’ Award in the So Glos Lifestyle Awards 2024, ‘Chef of the Year’ category.
We love sitting out the front, overlooking the water, and watching the world go by. Maybe we’ll see you there?
