Land Rover tours | Various safaris available | Tried & Tested
Who needs lions, leopards, and rhinos when you can head out on a fabulous Exmoor safari for Britain’s very own version of the African Big 5? Adventure awaits with Red Stag Safari – a locally-run company that takes small groups on Land Rover tours to see famed Exmoor wildlife including deer, ponies, birds and the eponymous red stags. Buckle up!
Located in the South West of England, Exmoor National Park straddles parts of both Devon and Somerset. With its rugged landscape, diverse wildlife and unspoilt coastline, there’s no better way to traverse the rolling moors than in a mighty Land Rover.
The Exmoor safaris excel in both style and comfort. Each tour heads out onto the moors in a Land Rover Discovery – perfect for off-road adventure thanks to its extra suspension! With a maximum of 6 people in each Land Rover, the emphasis is on small-scale discovery with plenty of leg (and viewing) room.
There are multiple Exmoor safaris to choose one, but each promises to take you for an exhilarating drive on the wild side. The standard Exmoor safari lasts around 3.5 hours, although times may vary based on routes taken and weather conditions. Those wanting to make a full day out of it can – there’s the opportunity to book an all-day safari to maximise your chance of spotting animals in their natural habitat. The day is also broken up with a spot of lunch at a local cosy pub.
If it’s the perfect snap you’re after, Red Stag Safari has got the perfect tour for you. Photographer’s safaris are run all-year-round, and can be tailored to your particular requirements. And then there are the deer rut safaris – an autumn spectacle where the red deer of Exmoor can be seen locking antlers during mating season. It’s a sight to behold, and extra special as these large stags are hard to find throughout the rest of the year. Read our Red Stag Safari weekend review.
No matter which tour you choose, you’re in good, safe hands. Each Red Stag Safari tour is headed up by Andrew Turner, a local with an encyclopedic knowledge of the Moors, its history and all the best viewing spots. With Andrew in the driving seat, you’re guaranteed to learn something new about the landscapes, animal behaviour and more.
In fact, Andrew’s infectious enthusiasm and passion for the local area is one of the most exciting things about the tours – he was even acknowledged by the Bristol, Bath & Somerset Tourism Awards 2020/21 for Active or Learning Experience of the Year!
