Crowded car parks and bustling beaches can turn a day at the seaside into a stress-filled nightmare but the Beach Check UK app can ensure it’s plain sailing all summer long. TF for that is what we say!
In the UK we’re well used to disappointing summer weather so it’s no surprise that as soon as the sun shines every picnic bench, beer garden and beach is packed within minutes. Post-pandemic, hoards of other sun seekers can make a day trip difficult, however now there’s an app that can help you find a sandy spot to enjoy the summer without having to face the crowds.
Originally launched in the summer of 2020, Beach Check UK was designed to help manage overcrowding on the beaches of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole as lockdown restrictions began to ease. Now the app can be used in locations around England* with the National Coastal Tourism Academy supporting a nationwide roll out of this innovative technology.

By assigning either red, amber or green to beaches according to their congestion levels, the app can highlight which areas are experiencing overcrowding and which are quieter. As well as informing users of areas that are currently busy, the app also uses historic data, CCTV and footfall counter information to predict how congested beaches are likely to be throughout the day. Not only does this make it easier to maintain safe social distancing, but allows you to plan your next beach trip without the worry of running into crowds.
Free to download, Beach Check UK can be found on the Apple App Store and Google Play – all that remains is to pack your bucket and spade!
*The app can currently be used in the following areas: Hayling Island, Hampshire; Camber Sands and Bexhill Beach, East Sussex; Thanet (Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate); Westward Ho!, Devon; West Wittering, West Sussex, Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch and Minehead Somerset.
