Sleeps 9 | Beachfront Location | Child-friendly | Self-catering | Perfect for Families
Loved by locals and admired by visitors, Sundial House in Lyme Regis is a unique and stunning place to call home for a weekend, or longer. The trouble is, leaving it behind.
If ever there was a holiday cottage in Lyme Regis that could be described as an icon, it is the beautiful Sundial House. This Grade II listed property stands bolt upright on the Lyme Regis seafront, gazing out over the shingle towards the Cobb and harbour, as if on duty.
As it stares out to sea, through leaded windows, passersby stare back; many stop to take photos, struck by its handsome Arts & Crafts features and dashing honeycomb good looks.
Since the 1830s, Sundial House has turned the heads of coast-loving visitors, and many have returned to Lyme Regis with their families just to stay in this remarkable spot.
With enough room inside for 9 guests (there are 5 light and fresh double bedrooms), Sundial House is a self-catering property made for a special celebration like an anniversary or a birthday.
Of course, it’s the ideal spot to just spend some time together as a family or group of friends. Understandably, given its stylish interior and plush furnishings, stag and hen parties are not on the guest list at Sundial.
The kitchen, like the rest of the communal rooms in Sundial, looks out over the beach, the views flooding in through a large bay window. Sit at the long dining table with hot coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening and watch the waves break on the shore.
If you’d prefer to cosy-up, there’s a huge sprawling sofa in the living room to sink into. Open a window in the summer and the fresh sea air drifts in, along with the sounds of children playing on the beach below you. Come winter, light the log-burner and let the crackle soothe you as you watch waves crash over the Cobb.
Upstairs there are 5 double bedrooms from where you can either see or hear the sea, and two large bathrooms (one of which connects two of the bedrooms).
“Because of its fame; because of its remarkable seafront location, when you stay at Sundial House you really do feel like royalty.”
Find Sundial House on Marine Parade in Lyme Regis, a few steps away from the shingle and pebble beach known as the Town Beach. The Cobb is a five minute walk from your front door, as are a huddle of pubs, restaurants and kiosks serving hot fresh food to those enjoying the beach.
There’s a water sports centre a stroll away for sailing and paddle boarding, or you can head to the harbour for crabbing or a deep-sea fishing trip. Lyme’s main high street is ten minutes in the opposite direction, along with the creative heart of Lyme Regis, the Town Mill, and the Lyme Regis Museum where you can book onto a fossil walk.
That’s only if you can tear yourself away from gazing out of the beautiful bay window to the mesmerising coast beyond.
