🚢 3 Unique Shipping Container Cabins | 🛌 Sleep 2 adults, 2 children | 🌳 Rural Location on a Working Farm | ⏰ Open All Year | 🍴Close to Yorkshire ‘foodie capital’ Malton | 👌Min stay 2 nights
Why we love The BOX BNB for a weekend
“In the morning, awake to deer grazing in the field outside; unaware of you watching them from your bed. In the evening, bathe in starlight as you sit out on your raised terrace; taking in the vast heavens of this part of the Dark Sky National Park, which is only a stone’s throw away from Malton.”
If counting shooting stars or bedtime sheep is part of your sleeping routine, you’ll feel right at home in one of The BOX BNB glamping cabins in Malton. These 3 shipping container cabins are on working North Yorkshire farmland, which sits under some of the best stargazing skies in the whole of the UK. The sheep here are real, the stars here are astounding – and the cabins have been meticulously engineered so that you can see it all thanks to wrap-around glass windows and doors.
Inside
The Rabbit BOX, The Duck BOX, and The Pig BOX (as these glamping cabins are fabulously called) are everything you could want from a weekend farm stay. They’ve the location: six miles away from Malton (the food capital of Yorkshire) and only a hop, skip and jump from the North Yorkshire Moors. And they’ve the comfort; in shiploads.
What were former shipping containers have each been individually transformed into tiny homes (or working spaces in the week), with every tiny detail you can think of nailed. Inside, all three Malton glamping cabins that make up The BOX BNB feature an open-plan living area, which floods with sunlight thanks to the enormous glass doors – giving you a panoramic view of the countryside.
There’s a large sofa (which turns into a bed for an adult or two small children), a wood burner complete with a full basket of logs and kindling, a small dining table and a neat, modern kitchen (complete with Smeg equipment and Nespresso machine with pods) where you can self-cater without a worry. You’ll also find board games for those cosy evenings in, a DAB digital radio to set the right mood and high-speed wifi should you want to open your laptop for a spot of remote working during your glamping trip.
Come bedtime, there’s a double bedroom with a comfortable bed to fall into and another huge window at its foot – so you can count the shooting stars as you fall asleep. There’s also a clothes rack and suitcase holder, so you don’t have to squeeze in amongst your luggage, and a hairdryer with a diffuser (it’s not every day details like that are thought of, so big kudos to The BOX BNB for that). The bathroom is elegant with pattern tiles, brass fittings and a waterfall shower – and given that you’re in an ex-shipping container it’s a good size for two of you.
Should the stars and moon bore you (as if), there’s a cinema projector waiting. Simply slide down the blind and settle in for a night of Netflix streaming.
Outside
Step outside onto the large, raised deck area where you’ll find a table and chairs. Here you can drink up the Malton countryside views and watch the deer as you sip a morning coffee. The outside is easily accessible for the kitchen, too, so you can eat al fresco when the mood takes you.
Should you want to venture out and about, there’s plenty to explore in North Yorkshire: Whitby, Scarborough and Robin Hood’s Bay are only a short drive away, whilst Malton itself is worth the detour – it’s been called “the splendidly Georgian gourmet capital of Yorkshire” by The Times. For hikers, the North Yorkshire Moors are within easy reach and there are cycle routes nearby should you want a pedal-powered adventure. This is North Yorkshire glamping, chuffin’ nailed.
