Holy Santa. Sunday is the 1st of December which means Christmas is quite literally around the corner…  And, just like a panto fairy godmother, we are here to make it sparkle with a list of fabulously festive things to get up to this weekend. Added to that, should you fancy a Christmas Market outing, check out our comprehensive list of the 16 best Christmas Markets to visit this year in the UK.

Fear not, we’ve also included some not so festive activities for those of you who are sick at the thought if it all. Oh, and and as always, there are more ideas on what to do this weekend, in the Weekend Directory.

Event | Sudley Castle Spectacle of Light, Winchcombe, Gloucestershire

Nov Sat 30th – Dec Mon 30th | Tickets: £13.40 adults, £6.20 children

This beautiful display most definitely has the Weekend Candy seal of approval. Set in the most glorious grounds of Sudely Castle are 1000s of twinkling lights all telling a magical tale.

Follow the trail of lights and illuminations as they reveal the classic tale of Peter Pan, Wendy and Neverland. This night is perfect for all occasions, the moonlit stroll makes it a beautifully romantic evening for couples, whilst the animated lights and stories are perfect for kids and families.

Designed to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy the Spectacle in the best possible way, the evening spectacle runs on six entry time slots, starting at 4.45pm onwards. A walk around the grounds to see every display should take roughly 60 minutes, but thankfully there is no time limit – so you can spend as long as you need in the truly magical setting.

Event | Italian Cooking Class, Da Vinci’s, Pool Quay, Dorset

Nov Sat 30th | Tickets: £35 per head

We love Italian food. Hand us the fresh pasta and herby bread and we’re in heaven. So we love this: head to Da Vinci’s restaurant this Saturday afternoon, down on the Dorset coast, and you can learn how to cook the Italian way with a professional Italian chef.

Either make traditional tortellini or a classic Italian pizza, then enjoy the fruits of your labour with a glass of fizz on the side.

The good people at Da Vinci’s will make sure you have enough of your dishes to take home and share with family and friends, too. Bellissimo!

Event | Reindeer Making, Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre, Bournemouth

Nov Sat 30th | Tickets: £8

Feeling festive and crafty? Well, have we got a treat for you. The ever-popular make your own reindeer workshop is back at the Hengistbury Head visitor centre this weekend. So if you head on down there with the kids on Saturday, you have your own sustainable reindeer in time for Christmas.

To make Rudolf and friends, you’ll be using wood that has been harvested from the reserve, thanks to the rangers and their habitat management work. By the end of the half hour workshop, you’ll have your a mini wooden reindeer to take home. Heck, Santa will feel very at home when he stops by your place this year.

Theatre | Dr Seuss How The Grinch Stole Christmas Musical, Edinburgh, Scotland

Nov Fri 29th – Sun 1st Dec | Tickets: £28 – £48

This hilariously heart-warming Christmas story has been turned into a magical musical for everyone to enjoy. Step into the town of Whoville, with you narrator Max the dog guiding you through every festive twist and turn of the Grinch’s mission to steal to Christmas.

The show features the songs You’re A Mean One, Mr.Grinch and Welcome Christmas. With humour for both adults and kids alike this a great feel-good to go and see this winter.

Workshops | Christmas Fabric Wreath & Vintage Lampshade Fairylights, Gloucestershire

Nov Fri 29th and Sat 30th Dec | Tickets: £29

Deck the halls with your very own vintage creations this year. Head to Stroud’s Malthouse Collective where you can make an ever-lasting fabric Christmas wreath or set of mini lampshade fairylights with the lovely ladies of Sew Vintage.

The workshops are super easy and super fun to come along to. Best of all, you don’t need any previous sewing or crafting experience and all the accessories and lights you need to adorn your wreath and craft your fairylights are provided.

Just need to bring a piece of fabric that complements your decor, plus your creative juices and Sew Vintage will do the rest. Festive refreshments are also provided.
