So, you’ve decided on Cornwall for your couples’ break. Sweet. Kernow (as the Cornish call it) has some of the country’s most paradisiacal beaches, along with a ruggedly handsome coastline that can take your breath away in an instant.

Here, on this glorious tip of England, you can watch dolphins play offshore, stroll for hours along the South West Coast Path, explore the dramatic landscapes of Poldark’s Cornwall or sink into each others arms in one of Cornwall’s centuries-old inns.

Romantic retreats in Cornwall are, naturally, in plentiful supply: from gorgeous Cornish hotels with sea-view rooms to luxury Cornish glamping. If, however, you’d prefer something more private than a hotel and less ‘rural’ than a glamping stay, then there are some fabulous self-catering cottages and apartments on offer.

We’ve found 10 gorgeous couples’ weekend stays ideal for your mini-moon, anniversary or much-needed elopement from the daily drag. Including a dreamy chapel conversion and a blissful ocean-side apartment. Ready, set, run: Cornwall is calling.

Couples’ Breaks Cornwall | West Cornwall | No.1

The Blue Place, Newlyn

Sleeps 2 | Sea Views | Parking | Cottage

Long Weekend From £330.50

Prices: get latest availability and prices

Oh, Hello Sweet Thing: The Blue Place is a slick, modern reverse-level cottage with a nautical vibe, perfectly pitched for water-loving couples and it’s only moments from Newlyn’s famous harbour. Upstairs, ocean views flood into the open-plan loft lounge and kitchen, giving you magnificent panoramic views of Mount’s Bay. Outside, on the wooden deck, you can watch the vast skies change colour and the boats bob in the little harbour below. Downstairs there’s a king-size bed to roll around in (ahem) and an ensuite bathroom for sharing a shower after a long, lazy lie-in.

Why it’s Perfect For Couples: The Blue Place is made for two with all the space you need cuddle up together but not feel cramped. Extras include towelling dressing gowns to spare your blushes, a welcome basket with local breakfast treats, and a bottle of prosecco to pop if you’ve had a long drive.

The Loveable Location: Newlyn is Cornwall’s fishing heart, with catches landing daily in the harbour and fishmongers serving the freshest seafood you’ll try. The old town is steeped in history and the old pier dates from the Middle Ages. Newlyn is also a great base for exploring West Cornwall, with Penzance and Mousehole within walking distance and the insanely romantic Minack Theatre less than 30 minutes by car. The Blue Place is a short walk from Newlyn village on a b-road with an off-road parking bonus. For those who don’t drive, there’s a regular bus service and Penzance train station is just 5 minutes away.

The Downsides: The parking is a bit tight if you have a large car and some couples have mentioned that you can hear road noise. Although, as they also point out, this didn’t put them off their stay – and they’d be happy to return.

Add a Romantic Experience: Seal and dolphin watching experience for two, setting sail from Penzance.

Today, it has a lively community, year-round events and festivals and, best of all, boasts warmer temperatures than elsewhere in Cornwall. Hence the sub-tropical plants that grow in Morrab Gardens and in the gardens on St. Michael’s Mount.

In fact, it’s so nice, you may spend most of your minimoon indoors just enjoying each other’s company. There’s an ice-cream shop moments away and a pub at the end of the road. We recommend mooching down to the harbour. Whilst you’re there, make sure you pop to the hut on the harbour wall to buy some fresh fish for dinner.

The Downsides: You won’t find a garden at Corner House Loft; but there is an outdoor seating area with limited space – Aspects Holidays have tried to make the spot nice so you’ve somewhere to enjoy a cuppa on sunnier days.
