Why we love The Roundhouse for a weekend
“As the trees close around you, cocooning you and your loved one from the real world, you feel totally immersed in the woodland and utterly connected to Mother Nature – and to one other.”
This unique glamping space in Sussex (complete with wood-fired hot tub) is one of the six special places to stay at Swallowtail Hill; a forty-acre farm of wildflower meadow and woodland run purely for conservation within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Owners Sarah and Christopher created their portfolio of Sussex glamping stays to help you find solace by taking life at a slower pace. And The Roundhouse helps you do just that.
The Inside
Take a turn off the track, cross the rustic bridge, unlatch the gate and wander deep into the woods. In a clearing under a tall oak tree, you’ll find The Roundhouse – a stunning curved timber glamping cabin made for just the two of you. The design is completely bespoke to Swallowtail Hill.
Inside, discover a deceptively large, light and airy space with enough contemporary luxury to make a romantic weekend here extra special. Alongside the stylish, well-equipped micro-kitchen (with a sink, mini fridge, gas hob and microwave with grill), there’s a cute and cosy dining area for intimate meals and a sparkling and modern ensuite shower room, complete with towels, bathrobes and beautiful eco-friendly Wild and Precious toiletries.
But the real hero in this Sussex glamping gem is the sensationally soft kingsize bed with its beautiful reclaimed wood headboard. The bed faces a huge picture window and through the glass the green woodland spills onto your duvet. Once you’re here, tucked up cosy and snug, you can spend hours just watching the ever changing view of the woods. Which we thoroughly recommend you do.
The Outside
The cool curves of The Roundhouse have been deliberately hidden away in Dean Wood by the owners. It means you’re entirely secluded during your romantic weekend away in this peaceful corner of the world and can make the most of the outside space.
If you want to have a romantic al fresco breakfast you can do so on the covered dining deck. Should you wish to drink fizz by the fire as the sun sets, you can: there’s a kadai fire bowl waiting to be lit. And, of course, if you want to smooch under the stars in the private wood-fired hot tub, be our guest. It’s available for you to use during your stay for an extra £30.

Reviews
“So secluded, so quiet, and just perfect for an autumnal 3 night break away from the daily stresses of life. We didn’t see a single person the whole time we were there, only donkeys, goats, sheep and squirrels. Its so peaceful and quiet, spotlessly clean and beautiful in every way. We used the hot tub, had an outdoor fire and cooked inside. The cabin is extremely well stocked of everything you could possibly need. The big window looking out from the bed into the woods is so cosy. Full working powerful shower, big enough kitchenette and big bed. We are already looking at booking a third visit. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the little shop is just wonderful – we tried the chocolate and local wine on offer which was delicious! Dream place, and we were both so sad to leave!” Liv (Stayed in Oct 21)
