Why we love Meadow Keeper’s Cottage at Swallowtail Hill Glamping for a weekend
“Your very own real-life Sylvanian Family glamping cottage in East Sussex, set amongst poppy-dotted meadows with its own private pond. This unbelievably cute countryside gem is perfect a romantic weekend away – and then some.”
Located on Swallowtail Hill glamping, a 40-acre farm where the meadows and woodlands are run purely for conservation, Meadow Keeper’s Cottage is an entirely off-grid, cottage-on-wheels, complete with its own postcard-perfect stable door and window-sill flower boxes.
It’s just one of six unique glamping spaces at Swallowtail Hill designed to give you a special escape from everyday life – and may just be our favourite of the fleet for sheer delightfulness.
The Inside
Step inside to a rustic space, arched with thick timbers and hung with blue gingham curtains, all perfectly put together to leave you feeling as snug and warm as bug in the proverbially rug. Cosy up by the wood-burning stove with one of the books left for guests, remembering to pop a new log on the fire to keep it crackling from the full log basket provided.
When you’re ready for a cup of tea, fill up your kettle from the outside tap and use the small kitchenette inside to make your brew. It comes with a two-ring gas-fired hob and plenty of kitchen bits for morning cuppas and delicious dinners. Rechargeable lanterns and a cooler box for food and drink are provided for your use as well as all linen and towels.
Sleeping up to 4, there is one handmade wooden double bed in Meadow Keeper’s Cottage and the comfy seating/dining area can transform into 2 additional singles, ideal for children. Of course, it’s a wonderful place to come with children but we recommend making the intimate space a love nest for the weekend to make the most of its bijou charm. Just the two of you (and a glass of something chilled).
The Outside
Weekending at this gorgeous Sussex glamping gem at Swallowtail Hill glamping is about living simply and reconnecting with nature. You’ll find no electricity or running water inside the cottage but that’s the charm of the place. Outside there’s a washing up area with hot and cold running water, and separate outhouses a discreet distance away, home to your gas-fired shower and a private compost loo.
The cottage has its own private pond – often frequented by heron, and sometimes visited by kingfishers, as well as a covered decking dining area. There’s also a firepit equipped with BonFire BBQ cooking kit, so you can dine under the stars, soaking up your surroundings.
