Why we love The Long View Sussex Lodge for a weekend

“You can lie cosy in bed, with the glass wall folded away, and let the fresh meadow air rush over you as you sip your morning cup of tea. Not a care in the world. Then when a little soak takes your fancy, there’s a wood-fired hot tub just outside.”

For nature lovers or those simply seeking stillness, The Long View luxury lodge in East Sussex is a breath of fresh air – figuratively and literally. You’ll find it swimming in a sea of green land (known as Eight Acres) in a private, quiet corner of Swallowtail Hill Farm.

The fully-glazed bi-folding wall of The Long View gazes out over the eponymously named eight acres of meadow. And facing it, is your deeply restorative king-sized bed. Fold open the glass door and the outside sounds and sweetness rushes in. Weekending in this Sussex lodge is the closest you can come to connecting with nature, without sleeping in the wildflowers themselves.

The Inside

The crisp white timber walls and natural honey-coloured interior of this luxury Sussex lodge is as soothing as can be. The lodge is cleverly split into a bedroom, dining and lounge space, with the chunky rustic headboard forming a room partition so your sleeping space and living space feel worlds away from one another.

There’s a wood burner for chilly nights and a fully-equipped micro kitchen (with a sink, mini fridge, gas hob and microwave with grill) – everything you need for cooking up lazy breakfasts and sundowner dinners.

At the far end of The Long View, there’s an immaculate ensuite with flushing loo and shower room set with thick white towels, bathrobes and Wild and Precious eco-friendly toiletries. Forget chilly dashes to the compost toilet in the middle of the night.

For families, the two-seater sofa ingeniously becomes bunks for the kids with a few simple latches and locks (although the top bunk is only suitable for children up to ten years old). For couples, the same space makes a cosy nook to sit and read, if you can tear yourself away from the podium-winning bedroom – and those views.

The Outside

The views are yours and yours alone thanks to your own private, fenced off garden. From here, sat under the covered dining deck, you can drink in the peace and quiet of the Eight Acres meadow uninterrupted.

There’s also a kadai firebowl to light and toast marshmallows by and, best of all, should you want your sunset to come with bubbles, this Sussex lodge comes with a wood-fired hot tub. It’s yours for the stay for just £30 and all the logs you need to keep the fire burning.

Reviews

“This was our first stay at Swallowtail Hill and we stayed at the Long View. It’s an absolutely beautiful location on the edge of a wood, overlooking fields. The cabin had everything we needed, including a well equipped little kitchen and the wood burning stove heated up the cabin in no time. Using the hot tub meant we could enjoy time outside in the evening despite it being November! Sarah was so welcoming and we even had a chance to meet the friendly donkeys who live at the farm. Will definitely come again.” Michelle (Stayed in Nov 21)
