5. The Happy Huts,Wells-next-the-Sea, North Norfolk
17 individually-themed huts | Suitable for up to 6 people | Open March – October | Mostly dog-friendly
You can see why The Happy Huts are called ‘happy’. These 17 candy-coloured raised wooden beach huts are the epitome of British seaside cheeriness and charm (and, reputedly, some of the most photographed beach huts in the UK). Each hut has a different personality, colour palette and quirky name: The Bear Hut, Surf Shack, White Elephant, Vitamin Sea are just four of the huts you can kick back in with up to 6 of your loved ones and the family dog.
They’ve all been dressed to the nines inside by their owner, Jodie, with all the paraphernalia you need for a fun day at the beach, including chairs, windbreaks, tables, beach toys, picnicware, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and a singular gas stove to make your hot drinks. What’s more, 14 out of 17 huts even have hammocks swinging underneath them for a sneaky sojourn in the shade.
There are bright cushions, colourful bunting and coastal pictures inside all the huts too, as well as pot plants and cute accessories to make your time inside as delightful as your time outside on the sands. And what sands there are; because this is Norfolk’s award-winning Wells-next-the-Sea Beach, an iconic sweep of vast golden beaches and dunes – all framed by a cooling pine forest.
It’s hard not to smile as you climb the steps up to your chosen hut; the raised nature of them feels a true step up from battling with a towel on the beach. And it’s made all the sweeter knowing that this is a family business. In fact, it was Jodie’s grandpa who purchased the first beach hut for the family to use in 2007, which they did for many years. Today, The Happy Huts are loved by many hundreds of ‘happy’ guests who return year after year.
We love that you can hire The Nauti Hut (No.114) and The Happy Hut (No.128) in December, when they transform into costal cabins full of festive hoorah. Book these ‘festive huts‘ and they come with blankets and hot water bottles to keep you cosy, marshmallows to keep your blood sugars high, as well as Christmas decorations, fairylights, a lantern and a stove and saucepan for warming mulled wine or cider.
- Suitable for up to 6 people
- All of the huts apart from Upper Deck (No. 2) and Beach Hut (No. 11) are dog friendly
- Picnic box deliveries available
- Pay and display parking nearby
