Lyme Regis is one of our favourite coastal spots for Dorset weekend breaks. This lovely seaside gem on the Jurassic Coast is the former home town of the famous palaeontologist Mary Anning and is a must visit when you’re craving easy breezy Vitamin Sea.

Although a small town, there are many wonderful things to do in Lyme Regis, as well as plenty of fabulous restaurants to eat at during a weekend stay. Of course, being a popular spot for weekenders, Lyme Regis has an abundance of holiday cottages to lay your weekend bag in – so, to help you decide where to stay we’ve pin-pointed some knock-out Lyme Regis properties that we’d be happy to call home for a weekend or longer. Your hard work, done.

Best Lyme Regis Holiday Cottages For Dog-Friendly Weekend Breaks

Coombe Street Cottage, Coombe Street

Sleeps 4 | Old Town | From £110pn

For a serious side-helping of seaside cool, check into Coombe Street Cottage. Find it near the River Lym, stood in a quiet, achingly-pretty street at the heart of the oldest part of Lyme Regis – just 1 min walk away from the sea.

This deceptively spacious holiday cottage has been masterfully renovated to bring it right up to date. Forget old-fashioned farmhouse cottage styling that makes you feel like you’re in your aunt’s house, Coombe Street Cottage is fresh, slick and styled to such a high standard it could’ve come from the pages of an interior magazine. Best of all, it’s 100% pet-friendly so your pooch will be barking happy.

Inside: Step off the street and straight into the crisp, spotlessly clean open-plan living space. There’s a comfy, neat lounge with a gorgeous emerald SLF24 sofa (that you’ll immediately want to steal) and a large Smart TV loaded with Netflix if you fancy a cosy night in.

There’s also a dining area with a bespoke dining table and chairs for four, as well as a tidy white and green kitchen with an induction hob, oven, integrated fridge and washing machine. Plus, all the cooking bits and bobs you need to rustle up a feast. For your four-legged friend, we especially love the jar of doggy treats and doggy bed, thoughtfully provided by the owner, Charlie, who is dog-lovers himself.

Upstairs you’ll find two warm and welcoming bedrooms with a soft seaside feel and light, airy design to match the rest of the holiday cottage. The master bedroom is a quiet nest for the night with a bouncy double, large wardrobe and beach-chic chest of drawers. The second bedroom is a neat bunk-bed room with charming fish-themed wallpaper that’s sure to go down a splash with kids.

Also upstairs is a spacious shower room: it packs a colourful punch with deep-blue tiles that remind you the sea is just a minute’s walk away. Best of all, you can hear the River Lym from the bathroom – it passes underneath the main bathroom window on its ways towards the sea.

Weekenders will love: You’re super close to Lyme’s best bits, including The Town Mill Bakery, which is a great spot for brunch, an excellent fish and chip shop, Lyme’s Fish Bar, and our personal favourite fish restaurant, The Millside. There’s also the brilliant Lyme Regis microbrewery a stone’s throw away as well as the newly-renovated trendy pub hangout, The Ship Inn. And because Coombe Cottage is set at the bottom of Lyme Regis in the old town, you don’t need to walk up the town’s notorious hills dragging your luggage behind you!

Worth remembering: Although there’s no private car park with Coombe Cottage, there are great parking options nearby, such as Woodmead Car Park which is only 7 mins’ walk away.

The Arched House is a delightful five-bedroom 19th-century holiday cottage sitting in ancient Coombe Street in Lyme Regis, just 150 yards from the seafront. A unique and beautiful former gamekeepers’ cottage set into the hillside just outside of Lyme Regis. Built in 1850 on the private Pinhay Estate, Lynch Cottage offers stunning views over a quiet woodland valley all the way to the sea. Best Lyme Regis Holiday Cottages With Designer Creds

Cedar House, Uplyme
Sleeps 8 | Architecturally Special | Includes Beach Hut | From £335pn

Local Devon architect, Annie Martin, created the split-level house: a contemporary glass, steel and wood space that’d suit Elon Musk for a weekend. Inside, you’ll find 4 bedrooms, along with a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows giving panoramic views over the Lyme Valley.

Springfield House, Woodmead Road

The result is jaw-dropping interiors with all the feels of a boutique hotel. The house sleeps 14, is a short walk from the beaches, gardens and harbour of Lyme Regis, and is ideal for multiple families holidaying together or special group celebration.

Conceived by a textile artist and inspired by the principles of Japanese Wabi Sabi, Fjall is the ultimate Lyme Regis splurge-cation. Inside, this repurposed flint-stone fronted building is full of designer beauty and grandeur with pink-coloured plaster-patterned interiors and swirling concrete floors. Outside, there are award-worthy vistas over towards Charmouth and the Jurassic Coast. It comes with hefty price tag, but it’ll be a weekend you won’t forget.
